About Sharni Quinn
I love what I do, and do what I love. I am passionate about inspiring you from the most beautiful and energetic places in the world, including my own home city, Cape Town, South Africa!
Here is my story…
I have been there. I have felt lost. I have felt trapped. I have been to a place of darkness. I have dealt with emotional abuse. I have had an emotional breakdown. I have experienced a broken heart (many times, actually). I have gotten divorced. I have been told I had a form of skin cancer. I have been injured and not been able to exercise. I have put on weight and felt frustrated in my body. I have had adrenal fatigue and battled with burnout.
I have been through my own real lows…but you know what, I am not the only one. I am not unique in this aspect. I am sure if I asked you to list your real low points you would have a long list as well. It is called REALLY living. Life is not a fairytale and it’s not always rosy, and to be honest, I wouldn’t want it to be. How can we see the rainbows if there is no rain?
I believe it is what we do with these difficult moments and how we respond to them that really matters. When I once found myself at rock bottom,in a place where I needed to change my life and save my soul, I packed up everything and embarked on my personal journey to ‘Follow the Sun.’ I planned nine months of sunshine and pursuing my three passions: Yoga, beach and travel. It was meant to be a journey to find my inner light. I travelled for a purpose and I dedicated my journey to the children of Goedgedacht Farm – doing Sun Salutations along the way to raise awareness and funds. It was an extra push of motivation, always when I needed it most.
My journey first took me to the beaches of Goa and a cleansing month in the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala, South of India. I then travelled to Bali, joined a fellow yogi friend, and together we created our own yoga retreat and sang mantras cycling through the rice paddies.
From Bali, I travelled down the East Coast of Australia where I taught Yoga and ‘Follow the Sun’ workshops, lived with my own personal Swami, received a lifelong blessing from Tibetan monks in Byron Bay and explored the many Yoga studios in Sydney. It was my own version of Eat, Pray, Love, and in the end, I re-discovered… me.
In spite of my mission to follow the sun and live in only sunshine, event then, life was not always sunny and bright. As for any person, life happens. Yet, I am forever grateful that I had the courage to find my way to follow my heart, listen to my gut instincts and embark on my ‘Follow the Sun’ journey – because it brought me to my purpose and showed me the gifts I have and want to share with the world.
However, that was in 2010. This is now.
And the journey towards health, wholeness and happiness continues. I have taken my learning and inspiration from my Follow the Sun journey and used it to fuel my passion of working with other people to help them realize their healthiest, happiest life. So I created my company, aptly named, Follow the Sun, and now I spend my time being inspired and inspiring other people (especially women), through developing and delivering programs that help them to find their own light, discover their purpose, live a life of balance and to shine.
My personal healing journey inspires other women who have to, or have had to, rebuild herself after facing loss, and it is an example of how yoga and following your intuition can transform a broken (or not quite satisfactory) life into a powerful adventure based on trust, personal wholeness and inner guidance.
I like to say, “Yoga is not about touching your toes…. It is about opening your heart.”
It is also a continual discovery of one’s self, an exploration, and a lifelong journey. And as I continue to learn and grow on this journey, I know that it is a journey I would like to share with you.
Let’s inspire each other, light up each other’s lives and create and follow our sunshine!
